# Statistics Basic Terminology

These are few basic terminologies for

Population— Population is any large collection of objects or data e.g Students, Cars, etc. about which information is desired

Parameter— it is any summary number or metric e.g. median, mean, percentage, etc that describes anyPopulation

Sample— a sample is a representative group of aPopulation

Statistic— it is any summary number or metric e.g. median, mean, percentage, etc that describes anySample

**Mean **— Mean (average) of a data set is found by adding all numbers in the data set and then dividing by the number of values in the set.

**Median **is the middle value when a data set is ordered from least to greatest.

**Mode **is the number that occurs most often in a data set.
